Over the years painting and drawing flowers, fruit and vegetables has developed from an interest into a passion. After many years of working in watercolour I turned to oil to try something different. I wanted to experiment with working to a larger scale whilst still trying to capture detail, character and delicacy.
My inspiration is based on Chiaroscuro, initially working in monochrome to concentrate on the fluidity of the medium and detail of the subject, and then moving on to introduce colour.
Venturing into printmaking a few years ago proved very exciting, with my first prints produced in linocut at my kitchen table. Since then I've experimented with collagraph and etching which I have thoroughly enjoyed, however, linoprinting remains a current favourite.
My landscape work is produced on small canvases which I find delightful to do, often worked up from preliminary sketches en plein air.
